Solemnity of the Epiphany of the Lord
4th January 2015, Year B

Epiphany means revealing. In this story we see the Son of God, who is our Redeemer, being revealed to the whole world.

The story of the three kings or three wise men following a star and finding the Holy Family with Jesus in the manger is symbolic of each one of us having to be guided to Jesus, to his Blessed Mother Mary and to the saints.

If we knew Jesus in our childhood, we probably have to rediscover him in adulthood; we have to form an adult to adult relationship with him.

Like the three wise men, we will be guided by some light, which may not seem like light at all. The three wise men looked for the new king in the royal palace but found him in a stable. We too may find Jesus in an unexpected place and find revelation from an unexpected source.

You may find guidance or revelation on a page in one of the books spread out on the benches.

The three wise men are symbolic of all of us responding to God's light, journeying, being misled as Herod misled them - finding, hearing the divine messenger, being alert and smart.

Finding the real Jesus does not make us boring, saintish saints, rather it makes us down to earth and very human.
